End of Semester = Creative Time

The Fall Semester is finally over! I finished up my last final yesterday evening, so I had all day to play... well until the Georgia/Florida game.
GO DAWGS!

OK, now that I've gotten that over with....on to my cards.
The first one is a CASE'd card I found on Pinterest (where else?).
The original card can be found at Fienchen's stamp world.
Ingredients: Sizzix Stars Framelets; Tim Holtz Bricked embossing folder; Stamper's Best Paint Splatter

The next card was created using some extras I had on hand and made 2 of these.
Ingredients: Paper from MME Darling Dear; Sentiment from Hero Arts Year Round Sentiments (OWH  fundraiser stamps!); Sizzix Stars Framelets

Its so nice to be able to play and get creative again.

OWH Blog Hop for World Card Making Day!

Hey, Y'all!
Welcome to my stop along the Operation Write Home World Card Making Day Blog Hop!

WCDstart

If you're new to OWH, they are an incredible organization that collects handmade, blank cards from cardmakers across the country and sends them to our troops overseas so they have something beautiful to write to their families in.  Its my way of saying thank you to our troops and supporting them and the country.  My grandfather served in the Navy in WWII, I have a few family members currently enlisted as well as some dear friends and even a few coworkers.

This years theme is to create "Thank You" cards using an
  OWH sketch.

My first card is from Sketch #3

And here's my take on it:

I used Simon Says Stamp's Pointed Feather dies and paper from DCWV's La Creme stack.
The sentiment is heat embosed from Hero Arts CL582 set.

For my next card, I chose to use some of my Hero Arts fundraiser stamps and used Sketch #41.

I like the simplicity of the sketch and altered it slightly by moving the front piece to the center.
Here's my take on this sketch:

I inked the edges of the sentiment block and background block.  Used a bit of burlap ribbon and a few My Minds Eye enamel dots.  The stamps were from Hero Arts CL582.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to check out the rest of the blogs on the way!
Thank you OWH for hosting this amazing event!
Enjoy!

Here's a belated Father's Day card.
Neither my Dad nor my Father-in-Law are into the typical things you think of for dad (ties, golf, football), but beer is pretty universal in our family.  I decided to go with a simple layout and design.

I used Avery Elle "The Man" stamps for the image and sentiment, a few brads for embelishments and DCWV La Creme cardstock.

Feather Card for OWH

I wanted to create a more rustic card using a negative cut scrap piece from the card I made here. I distressed the edges of the negative cut then inked and distressed the sentiment.  I used a cut of raffia ribbon that I've had forever.  I used 3M dimensional adhesive to the negative cut and sentiment.

Bridal Shower Invititations

I was asked to do take care of Bridal Shower invitations for my sister-in-law's upcoming shower hosted by her aunt.  Of course I couldn't go out a buy pre-made ones...I had to make them.  We wanted something bright and colorful, but nothing over the top girly (because that's not who she is).  After hours of searching on pinterest and using the paper her aunt got for other decorations, I came up with this:

I printed out each invitation with the information.  Then, I stamped them using Hero Arts Large Solid Flower, Small Solid Flower, and Small Open Flower then heat embossed.

I also wanted to give her something that she could use throughout the years and would have special meaning to her, so with the invitation, I sent 3 recipe cards to each guest asking them to write down their favorite family recipes.  Most guests in attendance were from her family and included many recipes she grew up eating at family gatherings. I found a beautiful little box to put them in and they were given to her at the shower.

I printed the lines and words, then softly stamped the cards with Inkadinkado Lace Doilies.

Another busy few weeks have flown by.  My second semester of Vet Tech school has come to a close.  But, in just 10 short days, the fall semester begins.  Sheesh!
After I completed my exams today, I needed to make a card for my Mother-In-Laws birthday, which we'll be celebrating at their lake place tomorrow.  I've been completely obsessed with all the new Feather stamps that are coming out (go figure, right?!).  I had pinned a card a while back that featured feathers, so I CASE'd.
And here's my card:

I used Clearly Besotted's Fancy Feathers stamps and Distress Ink in Shaded Lilac, Peacock Feathers, Ripe Persimmon, Mowed Lawn and Picked Raspberry.

OWH Sketch #182

I knew exactly what I wanted to do with OWH's Sketch #182 when I saw it.

I knew those little 5 pieces needed to be feathers. I LOVE My Favorite Things' Right on Target die and stamp set and have been obsessed with feather stamps and dies lately.  All the stamp companies keep coming out with new ones and I just need them all, lol!
Here is what I did with the sketch:

OWH Card and AnyHero Mail

Hi all! Boy, it's been a crazy busy few weeks.  Lots of school work and work events, so I haven't been able to create too much.  I finally had a moment to sit down and work on something. OWH posted a new sketch on Sunday, which was based on the cutest AnyHero letter made by a 7 year old.

And I made this card:
Paper: Paper Tray Ink Kraft Cardstock, Hobby Lobby color cardstock
Die: My Favorite things Right on Target
Sentiment: Waltzing Mouse Stamps Fine Feathers

We recently held an AnyHero writing party at the Zoo for my coworkers and we got a lot of letters written.  The best part was that the Zoo Camp teachers had the kids write letters and draw pictures and the Teen Volunteers also wrote letters.  They are just amazing!  Kids have no filter and write what they think and the spelling makes it THAT much more special.  I wish my poor spelling skills were appreciated like that, lol.
Here are a few camper drawings:

And a sampling of some AnyHero Letters from Zookeepers:

All of the pictures are from our animal collection.  Some drew on the cards, some talked about the animals on the cover and some told jokes that included the animals.

Starburst Card and I'm an OWH winner!

I decided to take a swing at the Starburst tutorial from OWH's tutorial page.
Here's my first card.
 Paper: KI Memories - Enchanting
Fiskars scallop circle and 1" circle punch
Stamp: Sentiment is from Scrappy Moms - Owl Occassions; Owl is from Technique Tuesday - Wise Guys

 Here's my second card

The third card is my favorite overall.
I got the Owly ribbon at JoAnn and the sentiment is from Unity Itty Bitty - Thoughts of Who stamped on a Spellbinders Nestabilities.

I also wanted to share the goodies I won from OWH's Memorial Day blog hop!  Sandy was so sweet to put it so much awesome goodness!  (The yellow ribbon in the first card is some of what I won!)

OWH Sketch Challenge #175

Sundays are Sketch Challenge days at Operation Write Home and this is sketch #175:

And here's my take on it:

Saturday, June 1, 2013

Well, it's been quite a while again.  There have been a few changes since I last posted.  I've finally started Vet Tech school!  In addition to my classes and my fulltime job at the Zoo, I'm also working for a dermatology vet one night a week and volunteering with Wild Mammal Care of Alabam once a week.  Needless to say, I haven't had much time to blog.  I still continue to papercraft and have recently begun supporting a wonderful organization called Operation Write Home whose mission is "Supporting our nation's armed forces by sending blank handmade greeting cards to write home on, as well as 'AnyHero' cards of gratitude to encourage them."

Here are a few cards I've made for my Dad's birthday last year.

I got my inspiration from Stamp-n-Paradise
A friend recently lost her dear dog after 16 years, so I created this card for her.  I did have trouble finding DOG pawprints.  Most of the stamps out there are just generic paw prints, neither cat nor dog (and there is a difference!).  I finally found this one, but I had to add the claws to the top.
My inspiration came from this card.
Instead of ribbon, I used some raffia I had laying around and added a bandana at the corner of the card because Piglet always had a cute bandana on.
Thats it for now...its off to study I go!
