OWH Top 14 of 2014

OWHtop14

2014 has been a whirlwind of a year.  I had to take Summer off from school because my clinical site wasn't approved until classes began and Fall off because I wasn't sure about the internet access I would have while volunteering in South Africa at VulPro. Volunteering for a month with VulPro was just an amazing life altering experience.  I can't tell you how much I want to go back and clean up the Vulture Restaurant (says the vegetarian!).  I had good intentions of sending my small box of cards to Sandy at OWH before my trip, but I just wasn't able too.  But when I returned, that's one of the first things I did and to my amazement, she featured me in an unboxing video! Anyway, to this post.  Sandy wants us to chose our Top 14 cards from 2014, So here's my list:

I think this one is my favorite of all.  Its an OWH fundraiser set.  It's CAS.  And OWLS!

I made this one after taking the Stenciled Online Card Class.  It was a challenge for me to do something abstract with the offset layered pieces.

Another CAS, but the elephants from Lawn Fawn are just too adorable.

Feathers!

Another OWH fundraiser set with this paper is just adorable.

A Patriotic card.  Love this Paper Smooches Eagle.

I didn't send this one to OWH, but it definitely is in the cards for this year. (ha...see what I did there...in the cards....yeah....)

This one is a card I created from the Watercolors Online Card Classes.  And Patriotic!

To be honest, I don't really remember making this one.  I was probably enjoying a delicious adult beverage, or 2...At any rate, I love the bright sunshiny colors.

I got this Mama Elephant stamp when it was released so some of the sales proceeds could go to OWH.  And its one of the first cards I jumped on the sequin bandwagon.

I really like the contrasting stars on this one.

I totally CASE'd this one, but I used an OWH fundraiser stamp and distressed it a bit and love the rustic look it took.

I got this Downy Woodpecker stamp and had to immediately watercolor it.  CAS, and an adventure for me to do a realistic watercolor image.

And another Paper Smooches Eagle, but my favorite part are those cork stars.  LOVE!

Thanks for stopping by and running down memory lane with me.  Be sure to stop by the other blogs participating in the HOP and get inspired!

July ODBD Challenge

I'm a bit late to the party and there are already over 50 cards, but I just have to participate in this months challenge. July's challenge is "Things With Wings".  I think a bigger challenge for me would be to make a card without a feather, bird, or owl!
So here's my submission

I used Art Impressions Birthday Whoot and colored with PrismaColor.
Paper is from We R Memory Keepers Feelin' Groovy.

Thanks for stopping by!

Starburst Card and I'm an OWH winner!

I decided to take a swing at the Starburst tutorial from OWH's tutorial page.
Here's my first card.
 Paper: KI Memories - Enchanting
Fiskars scallop circle and 1" circle punch
Stamp: Sentiment is from Scrappy Moms - Owl Occassions; Owl is from Technique Tuesday - Wise Guys

 Here's my second card

The third card is my favorite overall.
I got the Owly ribbon at JoAnn and the sentiment is from Unity Itty Bitty - Thoughts of Who stamped on a Spellbinders Nestabilities.

I also wanted to share the goodies I won from OWH's Memorial Day blog hop!  Sandy was so sweet to put it so much awesome goodness!  (The yellow ribbon in the first card is some of what I won!)

Fathers Day Cards and Owly Goodies

I thought I'd share some owly finds since I haven't done that in a while.

How pretty is this owl rug from Urban Outfitters?

I almost always have success finding something Owly at Forever21 so I try not to go in there too often because it's so tempting!
Like this Owl tank.

And these Owl pj's (because I can never have to many pj pants)

And this Owl necklace. (because I can never have to many owl necklaces)

And I know its WAYYYYY early to be thinking about, but I really want to make a cute Christmas Tree skirt with any of these fabrics.  They are so cute!

Baby Shower Gifts

A quick post for you. As always, its been a busy week!
I needed to make a baby shower gift for a coworker, so I thought I'd try my hand at making applique onesies. I think they turned out pretty good for my first time. Just some heat and bond and a run thru the sewing machine.

I'm not sure where I got the patterns but owl and bird silhouettes are easily found in the interwebs.  I had a really cute squirrel, but it was a bit to big for the onesie.
I found a cute bird bag in the dollar bins at Michael's and used my sewn Owl card.

For Him, For Her, For House

I must admit, Monday was an incredibly lazy day.  I just looked at lots of fabulous crafty blogs, getting ideas and just enjoying the blog eyecandy.  But Tuesday, I got crackin'.   For Him:  I finally made my husbands birthday present (it was almost a month ago).  I used this great tutorial from Smashed Peas and Carrots.

He didn't want anything obvious or flashy.  I had a hard time picking out fabric because the ones I thought were good were to "loud" for him.  So we went with a plain 'ol blue.  Don't get me wrong.  I like blue.  My house "theme" colors are blue and green.  But it was so plain.  So I put some polka dots in the lining and as the handle.

For Her:  I decided to finally make myself a coffee cozy.

I used a tutorial from House on Hill Road.
The fabric is Owl Little Owls by Alice Kennedy for Timeless Treasures (I got it from fabric.com).

And For the House, I made a Springtime Wreath.

I used a round styrofoam form and hot glued moss all the way around it.  I couldn't find a natural looking nest with eggs, but I found a cute little basket nest with eggs in it, cut the handles off and hot glued it to the wreath.  I found a pretty bouquet from Michael's for cheap and cut the flowers off the stems and hot glued those around the nest and a few near the top.  I love my Birdy wreath hanger that I found at Pier 1, so no ribbon was necessary!

I'm linkin' for the first time.

Its in the bag

Ever since I got my Cricut for Christmas, my sewing machine has been feeling neglected.  So I decided to FINALLY make myself a new bag.  Its about the easiest bag to make and the pattern is FREE!  Its the Made by Rae Buttercup Bag

For the exterier, I used "It's a Hoot" by MoMo for Moda.  The interier is just red cotton fabric from Hobby Lobby.  I found a great video tutorial for making this bag at Couturier Mommy.  The video doesn't include the snap or pocket.  I haven't put in a snap before, so I found this great tutorial at Little Birdie Secrets.
Overall, I love the way it turned out.  A few future improvements would include
-straighter pockets (on my part, they're crooced lol)
-reinforce the strap (maybe w/ fusible interfacing)
-make a bigger version (she does have a larger pattern for sale)
I think I'll make a simple fabric envelope or pouch to match to keep receipts in.
