OWH Card Bowl 2014

Over at Operation Write Home, Sandy's started the Card Bowl 2014 which runs 3 challenges through the weekend.  Todays' challenge is to create a masculine card that somehow relates to the team that you're cheering for in the Super Bowl.  I'm a college football girl...I root for the SEC and I bleed Red and Black! I'm not a huge NFL fan except for the occasional cheer for the Falcons.  I honestly could give two flips about either of the teams in this years Bowl.  I have decided that I'd choose the Broncos over the Seahawks only because Knowshon Moreno and Champ Bailey are on the team.  And for those still not making a connection....those would be 2 incredible players from the University of (GO DAWGS) Georgia. Granted there is a UGA player on the Seahawks team, but their terrible colors dissuaded me.
My first instinct was to do a beer mug, but since this card is for OWH, that wouldn't be allowed.  I figured Red and Black (in support of Moreno and Bailey) would be too much of a stretch.  So flipping through my stamps, I came across a Flopsey Fishing set that I won from Sandy.  I figured I could incorporate the Broncos team colors on Flopsey's hat.  As I was coloring, I realized these colors are just to close to those of several UGA rival teams.  I tried to diminish the full effects of the offensive blue/orange combo by dulling it down a bit.  I guess its less offensive.

Still continuing to finish up My Minds Eye Darling Dear paper and Adirondack Mushroom ink for distressing.  I used a distressing tool to to rough up the edges of all the papers. I also got the idea of cutting Flopsey from Googling images and found Nancy Thomas.

Go DAWGS!

OSS Stencil Class Day 2

Another great day of information and tutorials!    Since I've been working and learning to color with colored pencils, I chose to mess around with the "Tracing" technique. Here's what I came up with:

The stencil is from SSS Chevron Pattern and I used Prismacolor Pencils.  The die cut arrow and sentiment are from My Favorite Things Right on Target.

OCC Stenciled Day 1

I decided to take the new Online Card Class: Stenciled.  The first day of class gave so many great ideas and tutorials.  The first I used the misting technique shown by Julie Ebersole, which is one I've never used before.  First, I had to create a mist since I did not have one.  A while back I got some Ranger Misters and used some Distress Ink reinkers to make my mist. I attached my stencil to the cardstock, placed in a cardboard box and sprayed over the stencil.  I think I was a little to heavy on the misting, but I'm happy with the results.

I heat embossed the feather and sentiment (hard to see in the pic) with WOW Metallic Silver embossing powder.
The feather stamp and "Just a note" sentiment is from Clearly Besotted's Fanciful Feathers.

Love You Tons!

I just love Lawn Fawn products! Their stamps and dies are just adorable! When they released Love You Tons, I had to have them.  I wanted to create something simple.  Here's my first card.

I colored the elephants with Prismacolor Pencils.  Popped the banner and heart with 3M and added Glossy Accents over the heart and exclamation mark.

My second card is slightly more complex.  I used OWH Sketch #86.
Paper is from My Minds Eye Darling Dear.  I colored the elephants with Prismacolor Pencils and used Sakura Glaze Pens for the faux stitching and to dot over the red circles in the patterned paper to create hearts.

A Few Cards for OWH

Getting in a few cards before the start of school on Monday.  It'll be my last semester in Tier 1, which means I need to get a job at a small animal clinic before I can start the next semester...which means I'll have 3 jobs! Yikes!  We'll see how that goes.
So I was flipping through my notebook of OWH sketches (PDF) that I printed off and decided to do sketch #193. And notice the lack of feathers...it was hard to not include one.

193 Sketch (Oct 6)

I've been working hard to use up a Darling Dear by My Minds Eye 6X6 paper pack, so I came up with these two cards.

The heat embossed sentiment is from Paper Smooches Circle of Honor and the enamel dots are from MME "Hello".

The sentiment is from My Favorite Things Peaceful Wildflowers and the enamel dots are from MME "Smile".

OWH Sketch #206

Sunday=Monday for me, but it also means an OWH sketch.  Sketch #206 has lots of layers, something which I'm just not well rounded in.

206

So here's my take on this sketch.

Paper: My Mind's Eye
Stamps: Hero Arts Missing You

Happy New Year!

There is so much to look forward to this year!  In March I'll be attending the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Symposium in Tennessee.  MIL has just about booked our beach vacation in August.  But most of all, I'm going to South Africa!  I am soooooooo very excited! I applied for a grant offered by the Zoo to all keepers to do conservation work.  I'll be working with Old World Vultures with Vulture Conservation Programme (check them out here: VulPro).  Although I've been to Africa twice before, this will be my first time alone, and not strictly as a tourist.

Since it's January, ODBD posted its challenge on OWH and this months challenge is Stripes.  I took a bit of liberty w/ the stripes by creating them with 3 strips of scrap paper.  My inspiration came from Jana Millen's card.

 Here's my card:

Dies: Simon Says Stamps Pointed Feathers
Paper: My Minds Eye Darling Dear
Ink: Distress Ink Iced Spruce, Versacolor Scarlet
Embelishments: MME Smile Enamel Dots, Sekura Glaze Pen
